Argentine photography, from its beginning
Until April 20, Museo de Bellas Artes presents the exhibition Ayerza – Witcomb – Paillet: Origins of photography in Argentina. The studio Witcomb, open in 1880, was a mlestone in local photography all the presidents until 1970 passed by it. Among independet photographers, original works by Francisco Ayerza, member of the Sociedad Fotográfica Argentina de Aficionados created in 1889, are exhibited. Influenced by Gauchos literature of his time, Ayerza made a series with farmers and countryside characters. In the early 20th century, Fernando Paillet’s work outstands. He shot the interiors of workers at his hometown, Esperanza, in the province of Santa Fe.
